The affix क also comes after a root हन् ‘to kill’ when the उपसर्ग परि is in composition and the relation between the word so formed and the verb is that of an instrument and घ replaces हन् । Thus परिघः or पलिघः (8.2.22) ‘an iron beam used for locking or shutting the gate, an iron club’.
